Meet Jo – Head of Compliance & Quality Control
About Her Role
Jo starts every workday by checking the team WhatsApp chat to make sure she’s got all the info she needs for the day ahead.
Her role is all about keeping Whale Competitions running smoothly, and one of the biggest challenges she faces is keeping up with the latest trends to spot which ones could make amazing prizes.
If she had to swap roles with anyone for a day, Jo would pick Michelle – presenting is way outside her comfort zone, but she thinks it would be fun to give it a go. She’s motivated by the variety her job brings: new challenges every day and the chance to bounce fresh ideas around with the team. One of her favourite things? Watching Michelle create our social content – it never fails to make her smile.
Getting to Know Jo
Her friends would describe her as kind, mad, and sensitive. Her proudest personal achievement is raising her two children, and if she could learn any skill instantly, she’d choose the piano – a slightly random choice, she admits.
Jo can’t live without chocolate, and the best advice she’s ever received is this gem:
“Everybody goes to the toilet the same way – it doesn’t matter who you are.”
A reminder that we’re all human in the end.
Whale Competitions Fun
Her favourite prize so far has been the Clarks voucher, and if she could enter a competition herself, it would be for Bullards Gin. She insists everyone in the office is equally competitive, but if Jo could collaborate with any brand for a prize, she’d pick any supermarket – practical and always useful.
During busy prize launches, you’ll find her reaching for – you guessed it – chocolate.
Outside of Work
Away from Whale HQ, Jo loves spending time with her family. Her dream destination is the Maldives, and her favourite film is the classic Dirty Dancing.
If she could time travel, she’d head straight for the 70s, and her bucket list is a big one – but at the top is her dream of seeing the world.
